the enigmatic label from berlin, schakal recordings is back with its fifth release and young dj lorenz lepus is next in line. the lepus project has gone through many guises, finally lorenz settled on making music as a solo artist under the lorenz lepus alias in 2014. while still studying at school lorenz became a resident at chalet�s tuesday sound department parties, cutting his teeth in the cities clubs he has played in venues including hoppetosse, sisyphos, arena and many more. this dedication to his music was not without some confusion, being aware of the melan- cholic minimal tendencies of his productions he has always been loathe to pin himself to a particular genre.what with the success of his career so far.. perhaps this isn t a bad thing. �feral child� is made up of two original tracks and two remixes.the title track s melody swells until it breaks down into a pulsing and rolling rhythm. �lost� is more immediate in its dance-floor compatibly, maintaining the rolling style lorenz imbues his take on deep house with an emotional poignancy rarely heard. floyd lavine steps up for the first remix on the ep, floyd is a resident at the legendary rise par- ties at watergate, with one foot in berlin and the other in his native cape town floyd delivers a beauti- fully loopy and oddball twist on �feral child� adding crunching static sounds. providing a harder take on �feral child�, italies vii circle change the rolling melody into a slow techno heater.

john shima has been quietly plying his trade in techno soul since 2010, shoring up on labels such as boe recordings, contrast-wax and firescope. now he inaugurates distant worlds with another fine clutch of introspective beats delivered with a classic early 90s feel. it s hard to ignore the influence of b12 on -renegade-, while -machine works- takes on a moodier tone without losing that inherent warmth that makes his music such a pleasure to listen to. -veloc- reaches for a heavy-lidded euphoria, and then -troglodytic- makes for the consummate b2 track by heading out into ambient pastures, showing off shima s synth skills in fine style.

the first clouded vision recordings release of 2017 comes from label owner matt walsh teaming up with stratowerx aka sam russo. the ep is completed with a remix from one of matt�s long-term studio partners, scott fraser, who makes a long awaited debut on the label. the three tracks were recorded over the course of 2016, with the two producers sending parts back and forth via email and the result sees a clear middle ground of minimalistic analogue electro and techno. scott�s surface pressure remix turns the first track �no function� into a dark drexciyan electro brooder, rounding off the ep very nicely indeed.

following �conningham ep� reach return with another uncompromising 12� from duo thread. dropping it�s predecessors unashamedly raw bashfulness, �goldhawk ep� is a subtler, deeper affair yet it still maintains its bass heavy, electro leaning edge.
the first track �ellerslie� ets the tone for the ep, a trip through the cosmos, with shimmering synth lines taking you on a journey through the galaxy. subtle variations float effortlessly on the driving rhythm patterns, the bassline only a distant presence. the 2nd cut �sycamore� is another journey into the deep, a slightly more housey affair, a motorik drum patterns carrying an eerie, deep atmosphere that is punctuated by melodic patterns appearing unexpectedly.
on the flip �the grove� instantly works up a sweat - claps, dark synth riffs and a relentless drum pattern. ferocious, in your face dance floor work out. rounding-off the ep in style �goldhawk� is the sparsest of the tracks on offer. built on bare bones frame, there�s melodic flourishes, subtle production trickery, galloping along a 2 step-ish percussion pattern. thread further cementing their eclectic production style with this strong ep.

the limited, hand-stamped presentation of the canoe releases matches the music contained within, all grainy and unusual but utterly tooled up for the club. nyra s pet project is providing a fascinating insight into the make up of this ever emerging artist, and tracks like -opening rhyme- are sure to pique interest from all kinds of adventurous spinners. while the track may start in a kind of looped up deep house headspace, after the breakdown it takes an unexpected, thrilling swerve into twitchy acid. -tape trek- is more overt in its surreality with its layers of pitched speech getting run through the mill and splashed over a primal drum machine beat. -galaktik- meanwhile has a touch of old skool rave about it, but it s far from an obvious throwback track. suffice it to say, we ll have whatever nyra s having.

ensuring they keep things pushing forwards while also celebrating their past, vibraphone call upon rising talent gemil to deliver an ep that is purely fresh material. -forces & gravity- is perfectly honed to get the maximum response from the dance with its muscular production and catchy vocal sample, but if you want an even more focused affair the remix strips things down to the bare necessities and works just as effectively. on the b side -horizon- gets a touch more playful in its synth work with interplaying riffs creating a dazzling whole, and then -solar storm- brings the heads-down, hard-swinging heaviness into the mix in a devastating finishing blow.

proof of the rude health of the australian underground abounds with this new label from phile, who step out with a self-titled debut ep that tells you all you need to know. this is searing, brutalist techno crafted with invention and imagination - the dense crackle of the beats and scorched peals of synth on -found in blood- are a visceral force to behold. -marauder- is mellow by comparison, furnishing a minimal beat with live bass, dramatic string licks and steadily building atmospherics. the analogue dirt of -abhor- is positively evil, and that s before karina utomo s none-scarier vocals come into play. brimming with personality and demanding of your attention, phile made themselves a duo to watch in one fell swoop.

previously spotted on udacha and sharing an excellent lp with a.e.m., dices has already demonstrated a knack for wonderfully delicate ambient compositions and off-kilter 4/4, and the goods just keep on coming via this stunning 12- for rough house rosie offshoot pandora. -part 1- is a wonderful opening gambit powered by lightly pattering percussion, while -part 7- enlists the help of nick ossia to float off into the swirliest of liquid synth baths. ossia is also on hand to help with the more abstract sonic shapes of -part 5-, while -part 3- provides a wonderfully energised, drum-rich ending to a truly standout ep.

udacha just gets better and better with every release, branching out into ever more exciting shapes and styles beyond their house and techno foundations. on this album from indoor plants, wild fourth world visions collide with hardware processes in a dazzling display of transcendental music for those who like their thought-provoking tunes to pack a punch. the likes of -targitaus- deconstruct club music conventions in a quest for new rhythmic purpose, and yet the soundsystem pressure is expertly sculpted out of the daring shape of the music. elsewhere there s surrealism in abundance, as on the wonderfully weird -hunch-, and that s just scratching the surface of this truly essential lp.

june 2017, amsterdam, nl: it is with the utmost urgency that we report the conclusions of our experiments with controlled doses of 4-ho-met, codenamed st004.
as instructed, we met up with agent 23, who introduced us to the test subject� code name ben penn � who was ushered into the bunker for immediate testing. in order to observe his reactions, penn was injected with a modified dosage of 4-ho-met and locked inside with only and handful of electronic machines for company.
the subject immediately began acting strangely. it quickly became clear that 4-ho-met was increasing his capacity to produce music.
afterwards, penn was able to play us two audio interpretations of his experience. he was visibly shaken.

�white punks on e� is the taste of bike chains rubbing against black leather. heavy cast iron forged across studs and hot-wired organs. the howls from blazed skull hordes jacked up to distortion engines broadcasting into neglected cellar units. it s shrill echoes from the parking lot carried along the financial district, overturning lobotomised business lunches, attache cases and $50 slick-backs. nasty club rock fed through biohazard cassettes, doom arcades, sabres and scorpion tattoos - new blood to rock the neighbourhood and a pleasure to welcome stratton into the fold.

legendary nitsa club from barcelona comes back releasing new music fifteen years after their first venture with nitsa recordings. the new label is called nitsa traxx. the essence is not to focus in a particular sound, but try to cover all the range of styles you can usually listen to in this acclaimed club. besides that, the main idea is pretty simple: the a side includes the original track and the b side comes with a remix. first release comes from valencian producer daniel kyo. after releases in drumpoet and bordello a parigi, on this occasion kyo dives into deep techno with a nostalgic hint to ebm. �nacht drei� sounds like one of those tracks from the infamous ruta del bacalao, but with a very nowadays production. sharp and hypnotic, but with a certain sense of epic humor. valencia style. on the flip, marc piñol remixes the original track and makes it sound blurry, obsessive, fast and mental. inspired by his legendary warmups in nitsa club, expect nothing more and nothing less that a simple but not-so-simple mixing tool with a personal touch. one of those long tracks for djs who just love to make lingering transitions to flip out the crowd. nitsa traxx will come back very soon with new music from people related to the club. family and friends. look forward to some surprises for the upcoming releases!

my third week in amsterdam i found my way to a small speakeasy tucked away amongst a labyrinth of cobbled alleyways. a doorman waved me inside, a knowing smile twisted around the half-smoked blunt hanging from his lips. i made my way down crooked, narrow stairs into a dimly lit room full of patrons nodding in the haze, feet tapping in time as they smiled and sipped at green-tinged cocktails. the soft sound of glasses clinking amongst murmured conversation served to accentuate the flaw in the scene before me, there was no music. realising i d paused in the entrance long enough to draw a few amused looks from the tables nearest me, i regained my composure and headed towards the bar, pondering the mystery before me. i reached the counter as the barman was mixing a cocktail and waited, but before i could order the man turned and placed a glass in front of me, the same half smile on his lips the doorman had shown me as he nodded at a specials board listing a pistachio sour. it sounded good so i took it to an empty seat and returned to my examination of the bizarre room. as i sat down a grinning girl next to me offered a toke on her joint, and as the no indoor-smoking law was clearly being ignored here i gratefully took a careless draw. as my coughing subsided i took a deep gulp of my drink, and suddenly music flooded my ears. my jaw dropped as i raised my head to see a guy on stage mesmerising the crowd with chill beats, house music permeating the formerly silent bar. the girl with the joint smiled at my amazement. his name s sune she told me, welcome to 8 till late.

frits wentink s bobby donny label returns with a new ep from icelandic producer felix leifur. it s not often someone other than the boss releases on this label so you know this new one is quality indeed. leifurwho also works as david & hjalti and davíð sveinn bjarnason has two solid eps to his name on dirt crew. they show him to be a producer of succulent deep house and atmospheric prone beats. across four cuts here he offers jazzy vibes, organic percussive patterns and authentic styles filled with warmth and soul. opener unidentified blues is a loose jumbled of hi hats and cymbals, rhodes chords and shuffling drums that could well come from the studio of a certain moodymann. they are alive and enriched with real feeling from start to finish. hampton is another tender fusion of deep kick drums, tape echo and curious melodies all tied together by jostling groove that is beautifully incidental and unhurried. contact then brings more proper jazz drums to the table, with distant sax sounds and closely miced hits and spaces of cymbal all feeling loose and free as they suck you into their world. last of all, universal rim picks up the pace with a more rooted house groove, freeform percussion and wooden hits and trilling, echo drenched melodies all making for an intoxicating cut

after a 20 year hiatus, seminal uk electronica / ambient techno imprint likemind records returns with lm05 holovr. holovr (jimmy billingham) has been building a steady fanbase over the last few years with amazing releases for firecracker recordings, opal tapes and his own indole label. his very personal brand of emotional electronica fits perfectly into the likemind stable, with two tracks of beautifully evolving ethereal pads and delicate 303 basslines, very reminiscent of early 90 s black dog or autechre. likemind aims to continue with its original ethos of only releasing the most heartfelt electronic music.

psycomat return with another super limited and experimental offering, this time from reason stendec. the a-side is an electronic dream take on an acapella version, subjecting reason stendec to extreme stretches, bends and vocoder abuse. the aa-side tries gamely to accommodate jono�s 9-minute kumo mix, a slab of unashamed banging techno that kicks like a buffalo and belches noxious acid fumes from arcane circuits that swell into an analogue meteor shower.
